Quote of the Day

Two such as you with such a master speed cannot be parted nor be swept away from one another once you are agreed that life is only life forevermore together wing to wing and oar to oar.
-Robert Frost

A WONDERFUL AND HYSTERICAL UNION

On February 17th Dan and I attended and helped film and take photos for a friend's wedding. Now we have attended quite a few weddings but this one really tops out. When Rebecca (the bride) arrives early and before most of the guests I was in shock. I mean that has never happened. She deserves a medal or at least a ribbon. Yet, like most guests I was wide-eyed at her beauty. I mean she's hot stuff normally, but she was glowing with her bright red hair, fair freckeled cheeks, and flowing ivory gown. She looked really amazing. And of course the bridesmaids in their burgandy gowns and fancy updos. I thought, wow this is going to be a very nice wedding. So Dan and I walk into the church..Iglesia Latina Emanual .......and um......there are no pews. nope, just office chairs. you know the kind with the metal frame and canvas seats. Hm...that's different, but hey not every church can afford the luxury of pews. Well, guests begin to arrive and take their seats. Being that the Groom is hispanic, his side of the church was overflowing, and the Bride's side only had a few guests. I felt bad that we were not seated on her side due to our filming priorities. Dan and I are up at the front so he can get great up-close footage. side note- he smacked his gum throughout the entire ceremony and therefore will the film will be overshadowed with loud chew sounds instead of wedding sounds. I kept giving him the "death look" but he seems to be immune to it. And so the music begins........controlled by a 10 year old kid. Bum bum bum, bumbumbum..........blah blah blah. And here comes the bridesmaids, bum bum........bum........er.......silence. I am not sure what happened but suddenly the music just stops! Yes, poor Melissa and Michael had to walk the aisle with no music. You could see the horror in Melisssa's eyes. Hey, no worries, shit happens right? No wedding is perfect. Well, that's an understatement. So in comes the bride, glowing, happy and attended by "Coach" the happy F.O.B. (Father of the Bride). The music begins again. It may not have been the correct song, but then the kid skipped ahead and things were right once more. During the ceremony there was a Padre and his english interpreter. Line by Line. my God. Let's see, he talk about Love, Divorce, union under God, Divorce, Death, Divorce......did u know 68% percent of marriage ends in divorce? I didn't until the Padre told us. Yes, I think he was trying to tell us something.....Divorce is BAD and you will go to HELL if you do it. I am thinking....WTF? but hey, when you marry a mexican, it's for life. You may not go to HELL but the older brothers will try to send you there. The interpreter was helping trouble, well, interpreting. So peeps had to do shout outs for him. Once he said Rebecca had to "submit to her husband and cook for him". LOL. what? Later during the vows he said to Rebecca, " Rebecca, repeat after me. I Rebecca, take you Jose, to be my wife........" Becca looks at him like WHAT? everyone laughs..."I mean husband!" Keep in mind this is all in a Mexican accent which made it ten times funnier. Now after the unity candle tradition---which for those of you you who do not know what this is -the couple lights a candle together to symbolize them becoming one--- the Padre stands on the stage for a another mexican tradition the lasso. SO the Padre backs up...backs up, hey Padre! watch out for that flame!! and he walks into fire.LOL, right into the candle, but uckily the groomsmen save him in time, otherwise there would have been carne asada padre on the menu. Yes, the man ALMOST caught flame. At the end of the show...oops i mean ceremony, the newly married Jose and Rebecca turn to the guests for the big departure. waiting, waiting...no music. Wait, suddenly the kid realizes..thats your cue man, and he skips through about 3 songs till he hit the correct one. BUM BUM BUMBUM, BUM BUM BUMBUM. And with love in their eyes and smiles from ear to ear the B and G are off to face to world. Yes, this has to be the BEST wedding I have ever been to.

DAILY SLANG............EXPLAINED

todays slang is Irish.....
Knacker Tasch
a puny hard to grow mustache.
Usage example: "Oi, what kind of knacker tasch you call that anyway, you stoopid mucker?"
EXPLANATION:
A knacker, pronounced with a silent "K", refers to a juvenile delinquent that of course is born with hate for all things living. It can also be used to describe a member of the travelling community for whom we all hate. The tasch refers to pathetic teenage moustaches which contain only a few hairs on either side of the mouth. It is insulting to the attempted grower to call him or in some cases her this name.
This slang term is used primarily around Dublin due to the varying slang used throughout the country. Ireland is known to linguists as having a great variance in colloquial slang from area to area despite Ireland's relatively small population of just over four million. I guess when all you have to do is fight in a civil war all the time you can just hang out making up silly names to call each other.

the VISITORS

Rich and Marcie came to visit and we (including their friend Ryan) had the most absurd and fabulous time ever. We traveled through the city by plane, train, automobile, and cable car. Daring the weather and other tourists we made our way through North Beach, Chinatown, and the Mission District. We partied with the asians in a tea house and spun the wheel of destiny, in which my destiny was to win a beach ball with "made in china" on the side. We ate, drank, and made a stalker video. We became addicted to FruTips and starred in a commercial. In all, a successful trip. Photos to follow when I get back to town.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Would you like some of my world famous banana-walnut French toast?"
-Margaret Johnston

In Sunny SoCal

Ok so I have taken another trip, yes I'm quite the vagabond, and I am in San Marcos for the weekend. I am going to attend a wedding on Saturday and Dan and I will be taping. The weather is awesome, sunny and warm and exactly what you would expect of SoCal. However, I realized something sad and monumental as I walked though SAN. I no longer felt that I was "home". It seemed unfamiliar. Unknown. It was as if I was actually visiting as a "visitor". I came to the sad conclusion that 1. San Diego is no longer my home town and 2. I had finally found a place to call "home" - SFO. So bittersweet as it is, Dan and I plan to migrate back to SD someday when we are settled and have the money to buy a place but for now, you'll only see me with flowers in my hair.

a ONE success!!!

I received this email yesterday. Thanks to all our peeps that helped make this happen.

"Dear ONE Member,

You did it. You were heard. You got results.
Last month, I became CEO of the ONE campaign. When I began this job, I knew we had a grassroots army 2.4 million members strong. And I knew the success of ONE depended on each of you. This week, you showed just how strong you are.

Thanks to your work, the U.S. Senate secured the $1 billion dollars in poverty-fighting funds you sought, and they went a step further, allocating an additional $450 million in the fight to save hundreds of thousands of lives. Every ONE member made it happen.

Having worked on Capitol Hill for a long time, I know first-hand the pressures on Congress for funding. Being heard amid the intense lobbying is hard. Many special interests have vast resources to break through. But millions facing life-threatening situations living in extreme poverty have no voice. You came together and spoke for them. You gave them a voice. Lives will be saved, and our country is stronger for your leadership.

After hearing that $1 billion dollars was at stake in December, ONE members sent over 200,000 letters to members of Congress urging them to sign on to Durbin-Brownback "Dear Colleague" letter. 42 senators signed on to these letters and gave our champions the leverage they needed to secure this life-saving funding.

Congratulations. I look forward to writing you again about our plans for the year ahead and the future of ONE. As we build from this success, we can change who gets heard in Washington and give voice to those most in need around the world. You did it.

Please take a moment to thank your senators for saving lives by advocating for this vital funding.

ROCKIN' "SWEET CHILD O MINE"!!!!

So.... some of you may have heard that Dan and I, well, we like to play games. Yes, board games, computer games, card games, video games, mind games. The latest obsession is no exception. ladies and gentleman may I introduce.............Guitar Hero 2. Not only is visiting Glenn a relaxing and fun event, but is the world of gaming pleasure in the form of the addictive Guitar Hero. And truth be told, its the real reason we fly out there. Not because we want to spend time with Glenn, but we want to spend time with Glenn's gaming system. Sadly, I have no pics of Dan rockin out but here is one of him and Glenn playing the drumming version of Guitar Hero at the local video game joint. yes we went there and it was awesome! I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING AND IT'S JUST NOT NICE!!!!

TODAY'S THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTION

Why or why not?

ARCBA

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS BAY AREA

Yes, the time has come for Catherine to show her support for the local community. Some of you might be thinking....."wait, are Dan and Cat now going to be waiting in line at the local soup kitchen?" The answer is no, not yet anyway. I will be the one handing out the soup. So to speak. Actually, I begin my first project as a "training table coordinator" for the First Aid/ CPR event on March 3rd. Which basically means I am calling up peeps and saying, "So, March 3rd, need help. Do it or you're not a good person and will go to Hell." I am convinced my powers of persuasion will be handy in this situation. I am looking forward to my volunteer opportunities and remember people, only YOU can prevent forest fires. Or is it, only YOU can be prepared for a natural disaster?...hm.....got to get that one figured out. for now let's go with....only YOU can prevent getting burned in a forest fire. Yeah, that works.

DAILY SLANG......EXPLAINED

baby mama

The mother of your child(ren), whom you did not marry and with whom you are not currently involved.

usage example: "Oh her? She ain't nothing to me now, girl, she just my baby mama. So, can I get your number?"

EXPLANATION:

A term used to define an unmarried young woman (but can be a woman of any age) who has had a child. Most of the time it is used for when it was simply a sexual relationship, compared to ex-wife or girlfriend. Usually this has a negative connotation, a lot of baby mamas are seen as desperate, gold digging, emotionally starved, shady women who had a baby out of spite or to keep a man. Sometimes they may act like this because of missed child support payments, unfulfilled promises by the father, or convenient sex by the father. Either or both may exist in any situation.

SO.....

Basically a woman you had a child or children with that you now hate and refuse to pay child support for.Usually associated with hoodrats and trailer park bitches.

Quote of the Day

It's only when you look at an ant through a magnifying glass on a sunny day that you realise how often they burst into flames.

BACK IN TOWN

I Have made it back from ATL in one lonely piece. Yes, visiting Glenn is always most exciting and rewarding. He is one of my few friends that I can say I really feel like I am "at home" in his place. Cheers, man. OK so I bet some of you are wondering why did I fly out to the ATL in the first place. Well, though I have no reason to just visit a friend, Glenn bought me a ticket to see "Rent". Yes, I am a proud "Rent" fan and willingly sing the songs at the top of my lungs. In the privacy of my home of course, I don't want to scare anyone more than usual. Amanda knows what I'm talking about. "Got a light? I know you, you're shivering." Yes, a great performance with a small cast and a small venue. I enjoyed Collins and Joanne the most. I highly recommend catching a performance. Its about life and friendships and realistic selfish behavior. See it.
